Get ready to do the Time Warp again for a ‘Rocky Horror’ cast reunion

This summer marked 45 years since Tim Curry first graced the world as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Now the musical that earned a cult following for its absurd approach toward social commentary is getting a 2020 twist.

In an event benefitting the Wisconsin Democratic Party, Curry will lead a cast reunion during a Halloween livestream.

In addition to original cast members Barry Bostwick and Nell Campbell, an array of famous faces will be participating in the reunion. Listed names include Wilmer Valderrama (That 70’s Show), Lance Bass (NSYNC), Rosario Dawson (RENT), Jason George (Grey’s Anatomy), Seth Green (Family Guy), Jason Alexander (Seinfeld) and David Arquette (Scream).

Dawson shared her excitement for the event in a Twitter post Sunday.

“Ok… [I’m] beside myself as I post this—listen up,” she says. “This Saturday, I get to perform live in [The Rocky Horror Picture Show] with Tim Curry! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and the event helps [the Wisconsin Democrats] beat Trump!”

The reunion will also feature musical performances by the Dresden Dolls, Miss Peppermint, Eiza Gonzalez, Josh Gad, Ben Barnes, Jenna Ushkowitz, Rachel Bloom, Karen Olivo, Marissa Jaret Winkour, Madison Uphoff, Kalen Chase and Rumer Willis.

While it’s not immediately clear if Curry will reprise his starring role for the livestream, it wouldn’t be the first time he’s performed following his stroke in 2012. The actor delivered a haunting rendition of Irving Berlin‘s “What’ll I Do” during a 2017 event at Rockwell Table & Stage.

The one-time-only Rocky Horror reunion event will take place Oct. 31 at 9 p.m. CT. You can get access to the livestream here by making a donation to the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.

It should come as no surprise that Rocky Horror is being used to benefit a democratic voting resource in the days prior to the 2020 presidential election. Even decades after its release, the film continues to be a cultural milestone of the LGBTQ+ community.

Tenacious D further extended the film’s political influence Tuesday with a cover of “Time Warp.” The performance benefitted Rock the Vote and featured Jack Black in Rocky Horror-inspired attire.

Alongside clips from the original motion picture, Rocky Horror alum Susan Sarandon (Janet) made a cameo in the video. Former Democratic presidential candidates Elizabeth Warren and Pete Buttigieg also made brief appearances.

Other participants included Jamie Lee Curtis, Karen O, Ezra Miller, Phoebe Bridgers, Eric Andre, King Princess, Peaches, Sarah Silverman, Ilana Glazer, George Takei, John Waters, Reggie Watts, John Heilemann and Michael Peña.

While it may play like yet another attempt by Black to get us laughing during quarantine, the video serves as a good reminder to get out and vote.
