The Devil Wears Prada: Words To Live (And Rock) By

The members of THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA may sound like heathens on record, but really, they’re just devout Christians who grew up listening to Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. So AP asked them to provide us with their favorite passages from the Good Book. Not surprisingly, their answers are somewhat telling about the kinds of dudes they actually are.

“A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honor shall uphold the humble in spirit.” — Proverbs 29:23, KJV

Daniel Williams, drummer: “I feel like this verse helps me a lot. It reminds me not be prideful and realize that pride can sometimes be the downfall of a man. Instead, I need to be extremely humble so I can be rewarded with God’s grace. The Bible talks about pride and humility throughout many different verses, and says many times that the proud do not have God on their mind, but their worldly values instead.”

“Whether therefore you eat or drink or whatsoever you do, do all to the glory of God.” –1 Corinthians 10:31, KJV

Jeremy DePoyster, guitarist: “I have it tattooed on my chest to remind me [that] whatever I’m doing at any time, I should be doing it for God, and not for myself.”

“With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.” –James 3: 9-10, NIV

James Baney, keyboardist: “This verse really reminds us that we should not be so critical of other people. To call someone crazy is to be naive to their process of understanding. Everybody is different and it’s hard to remember that. We, as Christians, have to be open-minded and more importantly, open-hearted.”

“Yahweh called your name, A green olive tree, beautiful with goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he has kindled fire on it, and its branches are broken.” –Jeremiah 11:16, WEB

Mike Hranica, vocals: “I originally wanted to name the album And Its Branches Are Broken, but the rest of the band didn’t like it, so I contorted it to With Roots Above And Branches Below. I also like [the passage] ‘Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer’ from Romans 12:12.” alt
