'Deadpool 2' PG-13 re-release title, more details revealed

Deadpool 2 re-release will be hitting theaters this winter, and it’s (probably) not what you expect…

…unless you were really expecting a Christmas story.

As previously reported, the re-release will tone down the explicit content enough to bring it down from its “R” rating to a “PG-13.”

Fans had been wondering what how the release would work, and they got a hint from Ryan Reynolds. The actor tweeted a photo of Deadpool in a Santa hat alongside Fred Savage appearing to reprise his role as “The Grandson” in The Princess Bride.

Now, Deadline is confirming details about the movie that finally help us make sense of the image.

To begin with, the re-release is named Once Upon A Deadpool. There’s more to it than that, however. The movie will have a limited-time run in theaters, beginning Dec. 12 and concluding on Christmas Eve.

The site also shares that the original Deadpool 2 was edited to meet the PG-13 standards of language and violence. Plus, viewers will get some new, exclusive scenes too. According to the report, Reyonolds developed the footage alongside writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

The idea to make the Deadpool franchise to make the movies less inappropriate came up in 2016. Then, YouTuber Grace Randolph created a petition, urging Ryan Reynolds and co. to put out a PG-13 version of the original Deadpool. Obviously, the petition was met with a lot of backlash and it never happened. In fact, even Reynolds himself responded to the proposition in a story with comicbook.

“I don’t think so. I mean, you saw it,” Reynolds said. “That would be a very short movie. It’s almost a commercial at that point.”

How the tables have turned.
