Khan, a Pakistani-American, is Marvel’s first Muslim superhero. She became a fan-favorite after her comic series debuted in 2013. In 2019, Marvel confirmed plans for Khan, their first Muslim superhero, to lead her own show.

Although some elements from the comic have been modified for the show, Marvel stays true to some important character elements. The trailer focuses heavily on Khan’s Pakistani heritage and her identity as a Muslim woman.

“Maybe they’re right,” Khan says in the visual. “I spend too much time in fantasy land. It’s not really the brown girls from Jersey City who save the world. That’s a fantasy, too.”

The Disney+ show is set for release June 8.
