'Morbius' trailer shows Jared Leto's transformation into a vampiric terror

The upcoming Morbius film received its first trailer today. It gives us our best look yet at the upcoming Spider-Man spin-off. The film stars Jared Leto, and previously we had to scrape by on a few teasers and set photos posted by the Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman.

Now though, before the trailer, an image leaked of Leto’s character. Morbius stands to have a great chance of picking up on the success of Venom and establishing Sony‘s Spider-verse as a real competitor.

In March of 2019, we finally had confirmation that Morbius was in production after much speculation. Jared Leto ended the speculation himself when he posted the below photo confirming production.

At the end of March, a few more leaked set photos and video surfaced showing Leto flying through the air in an orange jumpsuit.

To take the teasing one step further, Leto dropped a video clip on Instagram with the caption, “Because no one else will walk this path…this place of shadows, where we do what must be done, no matter the cost.”

The looping clip shows Leto looking rather sickly as he creepily stares at nothing while standing in the middle of a busy sidewalk.

Before the trailer dropped, we got the closest look of all at Leto’s Morbius.

As you can see, we’re treated to a spot-on image of a very grotesque-looking vampire. That is exactly what we want.

Morbius is based on the character Morbius the Living Vampire from the Marvel Comic. Michael Morbius is a scientist looking for a cure for a rare blood disease. Morbius accidentally turns himself into a living vampire and decides to quench his bloodlust on criminals he deems unworthy.

People are already reacting positively to the look of Jared Leto. Check out some reactions below.

Morbius hits theaters Jul. 31, 2020. We can’t wait to see how Leto portrays the blood-sucking scientist then.
