Rap group Migos won a rock award at AMAs, people are confused
The American Music Awards (AMAs) happened last night, Oct. 9, and people are confused with how a rap group was able to take home a win in the pop/rock category of the award show.

The fan-voted award show featured performances and appearances from some of our favorites, like Panic! At The Disco, twenty one pilots, Halsey, Post Malone and more. With scene favorites being in the mix, we couldn’t help but feel a little confused with some of the winners, especially in the “favorite duo or group” category.
This year, the pop/rock category for ‘favorite duo or group’ saw the likes of Imagine Dragons and Maroon 5 face off. But interestingly enough, Migos, a rap group, was also nominated for the award.
While most people were expecting one of the two acts previously mentioned to take home the award, nobody expected was to see the hip-hop group beat out their competition in the category.
No really.
It didn’t sound like Migos even knew there was a chance that they would be taking home the prize, either.
“We did not know we was winning this at all,” the duo said during the speech.

The nomination threw everyone for a loop, and rightfully so.
While Migos can be somewhat considered pop, at least in the case of trying to make this choice make sense, wouldn’t having a nominee closer to the category win it make more sense?
Per the AMAs’ website, nominees for the awards “are based on key fan interactions as reflected in Billboard Magazine and on Billboard.com, including album and digital song sales, radio airplay, streaming, social activity and touring.”
While that doesn’t necessarily tell us just how this could have happened, we do know that Migos is pretty popular, which, could have helped in the decision process. Whatever the case may be, we’re still pretty confused on how this came to be, but it doesn’t look like we’re alone.

Really my biggest fucking issue with the @AMAs is the fact that they didn’t do their research to add enough rock bands in the mix for it to have its own category. Migos winning a Pop/Rock award ?!!!!!!!???!!! Why are pop/rock together??????
