Angels & Airwaves announce tour and forthcoming album, ‘LIFEFORMS’

Angels & Airwaves are finally back in full swing and have announced their latest LP, LIFEFORMS. The forthcoming release is the group’s sixth studio album and their first full-length since 2014’s The Dream Walker.

To support the new record, Angels & Airwaves also announced a world tour, the second since they ended their seven-year hiatus in 2019. Beginning in September 2021, the extensive tour will kick off in Riverside, California, and end March 2022 in Hanover, Germany. Dates for the tour can be found below.

The record and tour announcement also included a release of the second single, “Restless Souls.” The fast, electric new track is told from the perspective of God and means to tell humanity the importance of standing strong in the face of adversity.

“‘Restless Souls’ in many ways is an honest letter from God to humanity,” lead singer Tom DeLonge said in a press release, “because life seems to always be looking for ways to inspire, clarify and teach us when things become more difficult.”

The record is set to drop Sept. 24, five days before the launch of the tour. As they did for the release of “Euphoria,” the band gave clues to a new release in a tweet, where cryptic numbers and a mysteriously vague interrogation hinted at an impending revelation.

“This album for me is a journey through different relationships, different points of view and how we each have our own life path,” DeLonge continued.

In order for the announcement to fully match the heavy themes of the album, Angels & Airwaves partnered with Sent Into Space, a digital media agency specializing in the videography of Earth from near space. The agency launched a renewable hydrogen capsule, which will play LIFEFORMS in its entirety from the stratosphere. Album and tour information will also be displayed amid a stunning backdrop of planet Earth as the capsule orbits the blue planet.

The announcement is extremely characteristic for DeLonge, who not only served as an executive producer for the History Channel series Unidentified: Inside America’s UFO Investigation but also directed the forthcoming film Monsters Of California. His multimedia company To The Stars, which employs a host of physicists and former Department of Defense officials, has been credited for the release of confidential UFO videos by the government.

“Restless Souls” is the latest track from the forthcoming album following “Euphoria,” which dropped May 19. Like “Restless Souls,” “Euphoria” featured a cryptic release and a look at personal relationships.

“‘Euphoria’ is actually about the emotional baggage we bring to every relationship we have going forward,” DeLonge told AltPress. “Something that is a spark or an edge can be the sign of damage to the heart when younger. We are all responsible for our own emotional growth, and if we don’t learn the lessons, we will contaminate everything we do after.”

For an album with such heavy themes, it’s no wonder the band felt they needed a literally otherworldly announcement. You can find dates for the upcoming tour below.
