Andrew Garfield says recreating the Spider-Man pointing meme was harder than you think

By now, many people have probably seen Tobey Maguire, Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield‘s recreation of the famous Spider-Man pointing meme. In a new interview, Garfield has revealed that it was actually quite difficult for the Spider-Man: No Way Home castmates to pull it off.

He spoke about the meme on a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. You can check out the clip of the interview below.

“Me and Tobey landed on set. They put us in the costumes and they said, ‘We’re gonna do the meme really quickly,’” he recalls. “That was before we had shot anything… And we were all thrown onto a set and told to point at each other. I think we got one good shot, and that’s that because the rest of the time we were just laughing, trying not to stare at each other’s crotches… just comparing bulges.”

Kimmel also asked if it was Garfield‘s idea to add that moment into the movie.

“Well, we all were putting our heads together about it,” he replied, referring to Holland, Maguire, director Jon Watts, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon. “We were all like, ‘Where do we put the meme?’ We had a writer’s room going on for it, between the [six] of us… I was in my trailer, and I sat bolt upright and realized where it should be. I’m proud to say that I got there first, but someone else would have gotten there otherwise.”
