Spirit Halloween responds to that viral post about not opening in 2020

Yes, it’s only June, but we all know true Halloween fans have been planning their next costume since Nov. 1. For many, that means figuring out which old building Spirit Halloween would pop up in this year. However, fans are concerned about the state of the spooky superstore after a post started making the rounds online.

Earlier this week, a letter allegedly signed by the store had fans wondering if they’ll even open up this year amid the coronavirus pandemic. Now, Spirit Halloween is responding to fans’ concerns.

On Wednesday, the reported letter was quickly shared across social media platforms. You can see the alleged statement in full below.

To Our Loyal Patrons and Fans,

It is with heavy hearts that the Spirit Halloween team must issue a notice regarding seasonal store openings in 2020.

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, and the lack of international commerce at this time, it is likely that our stores will not be opening for the 2020 season.

However, for the sake of our Halloween superfans, we will be releasing several new items for the 2020 season including costumes, masks, wigs, indoor and outdoor decor items, animatronics, makeup, collectibles, props and in-depth accessories. With our “So Much Fun It’s Scary” mission statement, Spirit will continue to provide an entertaining and interactive in-store experience for all.

We apologize for the unfortunate news but greatly look forward to our 2020 season and beyond.

Regards,

Spirit Halloween

While the post hasn’t originated on any of Spirit Halloween’s own accounts, fans began tagging the store for some clarity. Since about 3:30 p.m. ET Wednesday, Spirit has sent the same response to each customer asking what’s going on with their opening this year.

“Hi there! Thank you for reaching out to us! Please keep an eye out on our Social Media Friday, the 26th, for a spooky surprise!”

While the store doesn’t confirm or deny the legitimacy of the statement, it does look like fans have something to look forward to on Friday.

Spirit Halloween recently announced a new Dungeons & Dragons costume line, so whether that means another collection is being announced or an update on opening for 2020 is yet to be seen.
