See Iggy Pop cover Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side” with Duff McKagan and Chad Smith

Iggy Pop turns 76 today, but you wouldn’t know it based on the ferocity of his live shows. Last night at his Regent Theater gig in Los Angeles, Pop covered his punk peer Lou Reed’s 1972 classic “Walk on the Wild Side.”

The punk hit, which appears on Reed’s second studio album, Transformer, and was produced by David Bowie, marked a first for Pop, who’s never covered the song before (according to setlist.fm). He played it as part of his encore, where he also ran through the 1969 Stooges hit “I Wanna Be Your Dog.” He also pulled out some other Stooges classics like “Gimme Danger,” “Search and Destroy,” and “Raw Power” during his set. Even cooler, Guns N’ Roses’ Duff McKagan and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, who play on Pop’s latest album, Every Loser, served as two of his backing musicians throughout the performance, which probably felt like seeing one of rock’s best supergroups.

Listen to his cover below.
