Freddy Krueger actor says he's "a little too old" to return to the series

With the rights to Freddy Krueger going back to the estate of Wes Craven, questions about if Robert Englund would reprise his role have once again cropped up.

Unfortunately for A Nightmare On Elm Street fans, Englund says in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly that his 2018 cameo on The Goldbergs is likely his last time playing the murderous character.

The actor has previously gone back and forth about if he would take on the role of Freddy Krueger again but now he seems to have a definitive answer.

“I don’t think I’ll ever don the makeup again,” Englund says to EW. “I’m a little too old for that. I’m a little long in the tooth to play Freddy now. I think if I was doing it, it would be more like Freddy vs. Viagra.”

“But I have no idea whether they’re going to go on and create completely new stories or whether they’re going to go back and do prequels or origin stories on the Freddy Krueger myth. I don’t know what they’re up to. So, I’m just waiting to hear,” Englund adds.

The actor has starred in eight total films in the series to date. The last he appeared in was Freddy vs. Jason back in 2003 with the series getting its start back in 1984.

Englund’s last appearance as Freddy Krueger came in the form of a 2018 cameo appearance on The Goldbergs.
