Over the years, Miley Cyrus has openly expressed her admiration for Metallica. Back in 2019, she performed the Temple of the Dog classic “Say Hello 2 Heaven” at Chris Cornell’s tribute concert. The performance “stunned” Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich who gave Cyrus a shout-out on Instagram.

Later that year, Cyrus performed at Glastonbury, one of the world’s largest music festivals. During her performance, she played hits including “Party In The USA” and even “Old Town Road” with Lil Nas X and her father Billy Ray Cyrus. As well, she threw in an unexpected cover of Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters.”

Prior to the release of her new album Plastic Hearts, Cyrus revealed that Metallica are one of the bands who inspired the sound on her new rock album. Shortly after, she also confirmed that she is officially recording a Metallica covers album.

“We’ve been working on a Metallica covers album and I’m here working on that,” she told Interview Magazine in October 2020.

Now, it looks like we are finally getting some more details about the upcoming covers album. This week, she told Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp that the Andrew Watt-produced LP includes some A-list collabs.

“I did a Metallica cover of ‘Nothing Else Matters’ featuring Elton John on piano,” she says. “I’ve got Yo-Yo Ma, Chad Smith; so many all-stars. I’m so excited about this collaboration. I’m really stoked. I love when ingredients don’t quite fit.”

This Metallica covers album isn’t the first time Cyrus has teamed up with some all-star collaborators in recent years. Her new album Plastic Hearts includes features with Stevie Nicks on “Edge Of Midnight,” Billy Idol, Dua Lipa and even Joan Jett.

Along with releasing Plastic Hearts despite distribution delays, she debuted multiple cover performances in 2020 including one of Hole‘s “Doll Parts.” The emotional cover eventually earned a response from Courtney Love who had a few things to say about it.
