Ellen Page calls out Trump administration’s anti-LGBT policies, intolerance
Ellen Page expressed her hatred of discrimination and intolerance last night, and is getting a ton of support.
The actress, known for her roles in Juno and Inception, went on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Thursday. She used her platform to talk about politics, social injustice and LGBT rights.

Page appeared on the show to promote her upcoming Netflix role in The Umbrella Academy, based on comics by Gerard Way.
However, she apologized for being “fired up” and went in on the Trump administration’s role in the rise in hate crimes against marginalized groups, especially those who identify as LGBTQ+.
“It’s impossible for me not to be fired up right now with the president and vice president Mike Pence, who like wishes I couldn’t be married,” Page said. “He believes in conversion therapy. He has hurt LGBTQ people so badly as the governor of Indiana.”
She also went into the recent racist and homophobic attack against Empire star Jussie Smollett.
“Connect the dots. This is what happens. If you are in a position of power and you hate people, and you want to cause suffering to them. … You spend your career trying to cause suffering. What do you think is going to happen?” Page said. “Kids are going to be abused and they’re going to kill themselves. And people are going to be beaten on the street.”
“I have traveled the world and I have met the most marginalized people you can meet. I am lucky to have this time and the privilege to say this. This needs to fucking stop,” she said. Page was met with overwhelming applause.

@EllenPage may be short in stature, but I’ll be damned if she didn’t SOAR tonight on @colbertlateshow.
Kudos for your #bravery and #Humanity, Ms. Page.
Much needed in this day and age. pic.twitter.com/YOT5nFiZzG— JC Callahan™ (@jccallahanATX) February 1, 2019
Well said, Ellen Page! Mike Pence is an insane zealot who has set LGBTQ rights back years and it’s important that people speak up. Hate crimes have spiked under this administration so it is literally a life-or-death matter.
