Cherubs channel the ’60s in a kaleidoscopic trip through America—watch

Emerging from the unapologetic noise-rock vault, Cherubs are introducing Schoolhouse Rock! to the school of hard knocks. The band are teaming up with AP for open enrollment, sharing a new track and music video for “Full Regalia.”

Endorsed by the cult-favorite Butthole Surfers, the band are priming listeners for their return full-length, Immaculada High.

Breaking out with an upstart of gritty noise rock, their first efforts were enough to catch the attention of the Surfer’s King Coffey who took them on his late label, Trance Syndicate.

Now Cherubs are sprouting from adversity with a gritty throwback sound tinged with influences of hardcore, pop and the noise rock that they started with.

While not offering a crystal-clear political statement (or any crystal-clear visual at all), the video takes a trip through American culture through a kaleidoscope of burgers, brats and beloved landmarks.

Dripping with ’60s-style influences, the band turned what was once a government-contracted cartoon into a psychedelic Dr. Seuss-esque journey through the throne of the Western world.

“This video is based on a little masterpiece made for the U.S. Information Agency (1953-1999) in 1976 by animator Vincent Collins,” the band explains. “It’s a sad, doomy thing but festooned with bright, blinky colors—so you’ll like it without thinking. Like a military parade.”
