Being As An Ocean kick it in London with “Find Our Way” video—watch

If you’re curious as to how Being As An Ocean spend their time offstage and outside of the studio, then the band’s latest single, “Find Our Way,” should give you a good idea. Since forming in 2011, BAAO have toured around the world and traveled to more than 20 countries. But for the song’s corresponding video, the band choose to shoot it in London. ‘

The plot of it, according to guitarist Tyler Ross, is “[BAAO] lost in London together. Four friends, no objectives. Just having fun together and channeling the same vibe we started the band on eight years ago.”

Being As An Ocean has teamed up with AltPress to release the “Find Our Way” video. Ross and and vocalist Joel Quartuccio provided a deeper look into the emotional alt-rock jam as well as their fifth album, Proxy: An A.N.I.M.O. Story.

While the Being As An Ocean are known for their creative, VMA-worthy videos, such as Proxy’s sci-fi “Play Pretend” and the blood-covered “Alone,” the video for “Find Our Way” gives fans an unprecedented look into BAAO. It’s one that the showcases the bond of the band. And how they first started off as a heavy-metal, Christian band and later discovered their post-hardcore sound.

“The lyrics are special to me and very uplifting,” Ross says. “Zakk [Cervini] is the one who took my original idea and added on heaping doses of rock energy to it when I wasn’t sure how to get that done. The drop also contains this ‘emotional alt-rock’ thing I always strive for; I always go back to ‘Fix You’ from Coldplay.”

“Find Our Way” is for those burdened by insurmountable challenges but find salvation in the ones they keep close. The chorus of the song expresses the sentiment best: “Together, we’ll manage to make it through.”

“The song hits like a wave, building and breathing so beautifully,” Quartuccio says. “Lyrically, it is spoken in the voice of talking to a friend or loved one, a song of empathy with the hurting and encouragement to the broken. It is one of those tracks that we hope our listeners will throw on and blare after they storm in, slamming their front door, on a hard or stressful day.”

And while Quartuccio wishes that every song on Proxy would be accompanied with a music video, there’s reasoning as to why “Find Our Way” was translated into film. It relays a sense that the members of BAAO are close friends who rely on each other. In simple acts, such as walking aimlessly around London together, they find joy.

“We have always held each other so close as friends in this band and understand the importance of leaning into the support of loved ones,” Quartuccio says. “The music community became the biggest joy in my life and informed my purpose, so if this song uplifts at least one music-lover, then it’s done its job.”
