ALTERNATIVE REP OF THE MONTH:

Irene L. Garcia
TEAM MEMBER CITY: Los Angeles
MEMBER SINCE: June 2008 and Los Angeles Leader since 2012

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO JOIN THE AP STREET TEAM:
AP introduced me to music that changed my life forever, It got me through some of the best days and the darkest days of my life. I figured if there was going to be a way I could help change someone else's life like myself, it was through AP. However I also love music and I love Alternative Press Magazine I wanted to get involved with the music industry somehow but I didn't know where to start. So I figured Joining the street team was the best way for me to do that. Of course AP has it's perks (free concerts, merch, meet and greet with bands ex...) But ultimately I felt like I owed AP for the impact it had on my life and I owed it to the people to help them find theirs.

HIGH POINT OF BEING A TEAM MEMBER:
I gotta say There is nothing quite like the experience of enjoying the music of talented musicians and sometimes getting to meet them. All promotions seem worth it When you’re promoting something you really enjoy or believe in.

BEST MEMORY OF WORKING WITH AP:
Although I have many great memories with AP there is one in particular I will never forgot. It was one of the warped tours I was working and one of the AP staff members asked me what band I wanted to see, I told her Breathe Carolina and she told me OK lets go see them and so I went with her, and she took me on stage to watch them play. The feeling of being on stage and watching a band you only ever hear on the radio or watch from afar is indescribable I guess you can say it was a personal thing which is hard to describe. However after a long hard day of work me and another street team member were walking back to our cars, in which consisted of us walking near the tour buses, While doing so we noticed a commotion going on, so we decided to check it out and it just so happen to be a little folk band singing and dancing getting everyone hyped . As we stood there watching for some time, we started to notice the many band members around us singing and dancing with us, In that moment They weren’t just band members we have grown to know and love for their music, they were like us. We were all family and we were related through music.

HOW HAS THE STREET TEAM HELPED YOU WITH YOUR CAREER:
When you join a street team you have to be out going and comfortable with talking to people. However being apart of a street team forces you to learn many things such as Organization, sales, the importance of quality promotion, Being comfortable talking with people who are already working within the music industry, and how to market not only yourself, but the band/company you are promoting. These qualifications has gotten me work as a Brand ambassador/Merch girl for local tours with local bands, touring with Primary Wave music 6 week CAMPLIFIED tour and now as a Sales Rep for Fashion Designer Krizta & Co. The AP street team has opened many doors for me, weather they know it or not and they are much appreciated I don't know what I would be doing today if I never joined the Street team.

DEAD OR ALIVE: WHICH MUSICIAN WOULD YOU WANT TO HAVE DINNER WITH?
WOW!!! this is a hard question... This would be like asking me what my favorite Album of all time is? This is really hard! OK dead would be either John Lennon or Kurt Cobain, and alive would be Gerard Way, Regina Spektor or Billy Corgan... OK I know it's not one musician, but really do you blame me?

FAVORITES:
ISSUE: #224 Taste Of Chaos Sub Cover
ALBUM: Hahahah of course it's this question... OK it would be Irene s Top Albums compilation... “come on I have a Album for every mood I am in” hahah ok I guess the out of my Top Favorite Albums... the Album that kinda help start it all for me as a child would be Pink Floyd The Wall... I remember when I decided to finally watch the movie I was all alone and I was scared off my behind... come on I was a lil niña!
SHOW YOU'VE EVER BEEN TO: That's a tie between the 2007 Rock star taste of chaos tour and the the My Chemical Romance Black Parade tour Halloween night.

Quotes From The Team:

"I want to say thank you for allowing me to participate with the AP Street Team. This December (2012) marks 5 years since it started, and it has honestly been the best experience I've ever had. Maybe to some people, being a part of a street team wouldn't be considered that important but I think it is. Over the years and many shows that I've worked, I've had the opportunity to meet so many great people. Every single person that I've worked with from the magazine has made such an impact my life. Before I started volunteering with AP, I would have only dreamed about the experienced I've had. Now that I have been [on the team for so long], it's honestly given me a taste of what it's like to work within the music industry. I feel like I have a better understanding of how things are and that's what I want to thank [AP] for! I can only hope that this opportunity can open other doors in my near future and I plan on being a part of this street team as long as you allow me!"
