Techno collective keep Iceland cool.
GusGus - Forever
[3.5/5] What is it about Iceland? Either the place only produces insanely cool musicians like Björk and Sigur Rós-or those are the only bands who reach our borders. Either way, if they're from Iceland, they're hip. Take GusGus, for instance. The techno collective have been making top-shelf house music since the mid-'90s, even as they burned through members (down from 12 to three) and the genre became about as fashionable as Ugg boots. Yet the remaining musicians are able to tap into what's still interesting about the scene on Forever's dozen tracks. The disc is a pulsating and soulful headtrip with seven-minute jams that could function as background music for everything from a fashionable ice hotel to epic journeys that'll blow the minds of ravers from here to Ibiza. Even with its ambitious title, Forever works right now. (PINEAPPLE) JR Griffin
