A blast from the past that probably should have stayed there.
The Only Children - Keeper Of Youth
It's difficult to really hate the Black Crowes. The band's brand of retro rock is so patently inoffensive that even if you think they're regurgitating songs you've heard before, it's hard to care enough to get mad. The same goes for the Only Children, the brainchild of former Anniversary singer/guitarist Josh Berwanger and his wife, Some Girls' (the Juliana Hatfield one, not the hardcore band) Heidi Lynne-Gluck. The influences that permeate the band's second full-length Keeper Of Youth are simple to point out: Big Star, David Bowie, Bob Dylan-and while the disc frequently flirts with genres, such as reggae ("Hide Your Sorry"), country ("Dusty Magazines") and harmonica-drenched folk ("Something Like Me"), ultimately Keeper Of Youth is a half-realized hodgepodge of classic rock that's as forgettable as Chris Robinson's solo career.
