Jazz-punk freakouts from a supergroup of sorts.
The Gang Font feat. Interloper - The Gang Font Feat. Interloper
[3/5] Greg Norton of Hüsker Dü is still rocking the deadliest handlebar mustache this side of Rollie Fingers, but there's not much else about this record to connect the dots to Norton's storied past in one of punk rock's most important power trios. This is rowdy jazz-punk fusion owing more to drummer Dave King of the Bad Plus, who contributed six of the album's 10 songs and co-wrote a seventh with Erik Fratzke of the Happy Apples. And as jazz-punk fusion goes, it clearly makes the most of every unexpected twist and turn, from the ever-evolving "You Haven't Lived Until You Have Had To Have Read Beowulf," to the almost No Wave-flavored tension at the heart of the suitably thorny "The Litigious Mike Love."
