Just like a Pop-Tart: Sugary on the outside, hot on the inside.
The Dollyrots - Because I'm Awesome
[3.5/5] When Kelly Ogden laments about unrequited love on "My Best Friend's Hot," you're just going to have to forgive her for not revealing the gener of said friend. The answer to that question-along with the overtly political message of "A Desperate S.O.S.," the tongue-in-cheekiness of the title track and other clever nuances-is easy to miss as it is when you're careening around the room to the most sparklingly reckless power chords since the Donnas were in their post-pubescent pop-punk primes. At times, the Los Angeles trio seem to be a sassier version of every female-led group invented for children's programming, but this is a function of the G-Rated sexual themes on the likes of "Hysteria," "This Crush" and the Roller Girl-approved cover of "Brand New Key." But really, Because I'm Awesome is just fun to listen to. (BLACKHEART) Brian O'Neill
