Brits get remixed, mixed up.

The Rakes - Remixes EP

[2/5] How do you take cool-sounding, skinny jeans-wearing Brits and make them sound even cooler? Remix! Or at least that should work, right? Not so much with this five-song EP that mines the art-rockers' material and puts it in the hands of DJs who strip out nearly every element that made you like the Rakes in the first place. The sharp vocals and angular guitars are replaced by so-so club beats that are fine on their own. But the final products are so far removed from the source material, it almost makes the whole exercise pointless. Only Steve Aoki's tweak of "Work, Work, Work (Pub, Club, Sleep)" truly incorporates the band's original flavor for a juiced up take on the song. Otherwise, you're just as well off spinning any dance mix. (DIM MAK) JR Griffin
