Dirty Pretty (Midwestern?) Things.

Locksley - Don’t Make Me Wait

[4/5] After grunge broke, did everyone in England start wearing flannel and cease showering for the next decade? Selective memory prevents most Brits from answering that question, but years later it's we Yanks biting on all things wiry and infectious, so long as they carry the proper accent. Brooklyn-based Locksley, for example, have this Limey thing down pat, effortlessly marrying '60s pop charm with the sloppy playfulness (or is it playful sloppiness?) of Artic Monkeys with the smoldering lyrical fodder of bands like Dirty Pretty Things on this self-released debut. Of course, these transplanted Wisconsinites aren't beyond occasional missteps yet-the dancefloor blitz of "She Does" could've come from the latest Jet abortion-but when Locksley get it right, as on the sinfully springy "Up The Stairs," few new bands make sounding good seem so easy.
