A blue-collar rock torch is passed.

Last Conservative - Pretty New Things

[3/5] In the '90s, the Goo Goo Dolls emerged from Buffalo, New York, to become the quintessential mainstream-friendly, meat-and-potatoes alt-rock band-one that possessed a sure touch with a ballad, as well -of their decade. Ten years later, it's Last Conservative's turn. Produced by the Dolls' Robby Takac (who also signed the band to his label, Good Charamel), Pretty New Things is a familiar-sounding sophomore set full of power chords and heartstring tugging with "The Way You Would Kiss Me" and the raw-throated title track bidding to become a "Name" for the new millennium (and perhaps turn singer TJ Zindle into a Disney-approved pinup as well). Like their homeboys and benefactors, Last Conservative lack the innovative instincts to compete on the same plane as U2 or Radiohead. But that leaves lots of dough to be made in the heartland.
