Colour Revolt - Colour Revolt EP
Alternative Press - Rachel Lux on 4/10/07 @ 5:07 PM - altpress.com

[2/5] Colour Revolt are difficult to categorize from their debut six-song EP. One minute the Jackson, Mississippi, quintet are doing their best Modest Mouse impression-check the roiling riffs washing through "Our Homes Are Graves" and frontman Jesse Coppenbarger's craggy, Isaac Brock-esque vocals and affectations-and the next, they're stealing cues from the space-age delicacy of Flaming Lips or the rustic soulfulness of My Morning Jacket. Unfortunately, this uneven mash-up of styles doesn't translate into a very interesting or unique set of songs. If Colour Revolt's ideas aren't overly grandiose, then they're just plain boring or generic. Only the harshly barbed "Circus"-which features grimy punk riffs and speak-sing vocals straight out of Henry Rollins' handbook-flexes any real muscle.
