Park - Building A Better _______Posted by Tim Karan on 05-Dec-06 @ 06:02 PM
[4/5] Given that Park have penned some of most emotionally absorbing rock songs ever to come from Illinois' cluttered post-emo scene, they should be huge by now. But their technical dexterity and oft-intense lyricism have never been easily digestible or particularly "dance, dance"-able. On this. Park's third-and least difficult album-those signature elements are harnessed without irreparably diminishing their emotional wallop in the process. "Chica Chica" and "Who Is Aliandra" possess the firmest rock stamp Park's put forth yet, and though each track requires flashy axe licks to shine, they're still busy and interesting more often than muzzled. (Check out "Mississippi Burning," one of the most affecting songs the band have ever written.) Now, about that missing noun in the title? Whether it was their intention or not, we'll say it stands for Future. (LOBSTER) Tristan Staddon
