Monks and rockers and seals, oh my!
Planes Mistaken For Stars - MercyPosted by Tim Karan on 05-Dec-06 @ 05:17 PM
[4/5] Did you know that Gyuto monks can chant, or "throat-sing," in three octaves at the same time? Now, we're not sure if Planes Mistaken For Stars lead singer/guitarist Gared O'Donnell has been woodshedding his one-voice chording in Tibet, but on Mercy, he somehow manages to wrench out a yelp that's one part Jared Warren (Big Business), one part AC/DC's Brian Johnson, and one part sea lion-simultaneously. Whatever the case, PMFS play rumbling low-hertz riff-rock that sounds like a rusted ice-pick brawl in a stinky alley. And if you don't believe us, one peek at the track list will convince you. Song titles like "One Fucked Pony" and "Killed By Killers Who Kill Each Other" pretty much say it all.
