[4/5] The DFA production crew of James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy may not have the Midas touch (their remixes are too edgy to go gold), but they do possess the skills to enhance everything they tweak--even a Radio 4 tune. The DFA Remixes--Chapter One gathers nine such renovations from the bulging vaults of LCD Soundsystem's Murphy and Goldsworthy, the latter formerly an integral figure in über-cool UK label Mo' Wax. The disc is a handy intro to the duo's uncanny knack for lending underground cachet to long-running acts (Chemical Brothers, Le Tigre, Blues Explosion), up-and-comers (Hot Chip, Soulwax) and more recent chart-dwellers (Gorillaz, Fischerspooner). The DFA m.o.: Any track can be improved by handclaps, dope cowbell motifs, wildly acidic 303 bass lines and garish analog-synth frippery. Add some beefed-up funk beats, stir vigorously, and serve piping hot to a writhing a dancefloor. Woomp! Klang! You've been DFA'd.
