Punk veteran just needs direction.

Tim Barry - Manchester
Alternative Press - Steven Robertshaw on 3/16/09 @ 5:30 PM - altpress.com

[3.5/5]
Two things that hold true about Tim Barry are that he knows how to tell a story and that he is a man faithful to his convictions. These attributes stay strong on the Avail frontman's second solo album, Manchester, and help Barry stand out in the sea of punks-turned-cowpokes. The best songs on Manchester are the ones where Barry provides foot-stomping music with scathing, sing-along lyrics ("Texas Cops," "South Hill") or when he focuses on melody, incorporating piano and string instruments ("Ronnie Song"). But due to its number of styles, Manchester isn't always sure what it wants to sound like. It would have been a better album had Barry avoided those jumps and just stuck with his strengths, but he has never been one to do what is expected of him-and that's a large part of his charm.
