[4/5]With as varied a lineup as Icy Demons boast (the band are a sprawling braintrust featuring peeps from Man Man, Need New Body, Bablicon and Prefuse 73, to name a few), it's no surprise that this experimental supergroup are heavy on the quirk and soul new-wavery. What is surprising: Miami Ice is fucking great and is as cohesive and listenable as it is odd. This isn't some cheap stab at hipster nostalgia or tongue-in-cheek, unlistenable art rock; songs like "Centurion" and the title track are instantly catchy and strangely addictive with their bizarre, ethnic polyrhythms, all soaked in '80s keyboard lines and beats played on the old Casio that's been in the basement since 1986. Sure, this isn't the kind of stuff that will top the charts any time soon, but we defy you to listen to the Falco-esque "Crittin' Down To Baba's" without uncontrollably tapping your foot.
