[4/5] The Briggs bring street punk with panache on their latest album, Come All You Madmen. Laced with sincere lyrics that oscillate between socio-political and more introspective fare, the songs span the gamut stylistically: Fiery anthems (the stomping traditional-Irish-folk-inspired "Mad Men" and "This Is L.A.," an homage to the band's hometown) rub elbows with earnest, folk-tinged punk (the comforting "Not Alone," "Oblivion") and hauntingly somber gems ("Final Words" and the dramatic yet compellingly restrained "Molly"). Still, as is this reviewer's predilection, the best tracks have to be the harder, tougher ones; "This Ship Is Now Sinking," which is absolutely fierce, and "Charge Into The Sun," a tune that gets increasingly wild, climaxing when guest vocalist Dicky Barrett (Mighty Mighty Bosstones) takes center stage. Coupled with some major shreddage, this is one helluva number. (SIDEONEDUMMY)Janelle Jones Official Website: http://www.sideonedummy.com
