On A Pale Horse - A Generation Of Vipers
On A Pale Horse, who formed in 2003 and released one album prior to (the overlong) A Generation Of Vipers, are being hyped with "ex-members of Slipknot" fanfare, but in reality, who cares? Take this band for what they are: An entirely separate entity taking a vastly different musical direction who just happen to include Josh Brainard, guitarist of the 'knot until 1998. These guys are much more on the Southern-fried metal/stoner-rock tip, recalling more like ASG ("Sound The Alarm," "Ready To Burn"), with a shade of Danzig-esque blues-metal (the seven-minute "Release The Smoke"). One of the most oppressive tracks is "Crypt Of The Drone," while the lamest, "Down Home," is a downtrodden slide-guitar borefest. A Generation Of Vipers is tolerable, but is that really good enough for this genre anymore? (CORPORATE PUNISHMENT) Janelle Jones
