ASG - Win Us OverPosted by Laila Hanson on 28-May-08 @ 02:51 PM
[4/5]ASG's latest endeavor, Win Us Over, is a finely crafted follow-up to the thrilling Feeling Good Is Good Enough. Though there might not be anything on the scale of that album's "Horse Whipper," Win shows the North Carolina-based band still brandish the rock despite taking down the wildness that drenched Feeling Good a notch. ASG explore different sides of their signature guitar-hero punk/stoner rock/metal mélange, incorporating the punked-up ("Palm Springs" featuring Blag Dahlia of the Dwarves) and foreboding ("Taking Me Over") with offerings like "Dream Song," a superb blend of aggression and pathos. The beautifully forlorn "Coffee Depression Sunshine," the surprising acoustic "A Number To Murder Two" and the closing dirge "Bombs Away" round out the disc's variety-if nothing else, proving that marijuana must not kill that many brain cells.
