Sean Madigan Hoen - The Liquor Witch

As the man behind Thoughts Of Ionesco, Leaving Rouge and most recently, the Holy Fire, Sean Madigan Hoen has created a fairly hefty, varied discography for himself. Running the gamut from post-hardcore to lush indie rock, Hoen's latest solo release is more of the latter, rocking a definite Arcade Fire vibe over 10 confessional tracks. While Hoen is undoubtedly a talented songwriter (check out the Holy Fire's In The Name Of The World EP), he seems best suited to performing with others whose influence would tone down some of his more saccharine tendencies. The Liquor Witch tries its best to emulate bands like the National and My Morning Jacket, but ultimately gets bogged down by excessive arrangements and a strange lack of the passion which has marked Hoen's past work.
