Emo icons come out of retirement.
House & Parish - One, One-Thousand EPPosted by Rachel Lux on 20-May-08 @ 04:41 PM
[3/5]In theory, House & Parish sound amazing: Members of the Promise Ring, Texas Is The Reason and Jets To Brazil get together and record a grown-up pop record with its feet firmly planted in the '90s emo scene. Unfortunately, while One, One-Thousand does have its occasional moment of grandeur, ultimately the results are slightly underwhelming. While the lush, shoegazer arrangements on tracks like "Summer Programme" and "Standardesque" are captivating, overall the band play things too safe and predictable, leaving the listener to silently wonder, "Didn't this already come out on Jade Tree, like, 10 years ago?" The one exception to this rule is "A Curse," a delay-driven-and nearly perfect-pop song that's also hopefully an indication of what's to come.
