The Menzingers - A Lesson In The Abuse Of Information TechnologyPosted by Rachel Lux on 26-Feb-08 @ 02:56 PM
[3.5/5]Scranton, Pennsylvania, may not be known as a cultural hotbed of rabble-rousing music. But it is the home of the Menzingers, a band loudly and proudly carrying on in the tradition of the Clash. Their debut full-length seethes with anger at the ills of war and a government hellbent on trampling those who disobey. That they deliver these sentiments with such joyous music is to the band's credit. With nods toward the Clash, Against Me! and Billy Bragg, the band write short, infectious songs that ooze energy, passion and a barely contained fighting spirit. Some pop-punk and reggae tendencies creep in from time to time, and the band even leave room for four folky acoustic numbers. But most importantly, the Menzingers write crowd-pleasing sing-along anthems. "Alpha Kappa Fall Off A Balcony," "Keychain" and "Clap Hands Two Guns" could be this generation's "London Calling," "White Riot" and "Lost In The Supermarket," respectively.
