Giving Chase - A Cheap Print Of A MasterpiecePosted by Rachel Lux on 26-Feb-08 @ 02:55 PM
[3/5]Giving Chase are certainly keeping the memory of technical skate-punk alive, even if it means going about it in a way that strongly resembles their peers in A Wilhelm Scream. Granted, GC tool with the formula somewhat, adding more contrast to their vocalists and a rugged hardcore tinge to the music, with guitars that occasionally ditch complex chords to wander in slower, abstract spaces ("My Cue," "I Am The Ostrich"). This diversity goes a long way in keeping A Cheap Print Of A Masterpiece not merely listenable, but fresh. On top of that, the Philadelphia outfit coat their songs with just enough melody and high-pitched yelping for a smooth, engaging dynamic. Giving Chase may not be at the head of the tiny class they're in, but that just means they're being carefully nurtured to really blossom into something special.
