Kill Hannah's van, trailer, gear and merch stolen in Philadelphia

Alternative Press - Amy Toleson on 11/11/09 @ 3:55 PM - altpress.com

From the "Man, does this sound familiar" department: Chicago-based rock act Kill Hannah were on the losing end of theft today in Philadelphia. According to frontman Mat Devine, the band's van and trailer containing all their musical equipment and merchandise was stolen out of their hotel's parking lot earlier today. He tweets:

"Press release out soon, but to summarize, our van and trailer w/ over $120k in gear and merch was just stolen from our hotel in Philly."

The band were on tour supporting their latest album, Wake Up The Sleepers. There is currently no word if they will perform in Philadelphia tonight as scheduled, or if they will play the last stop of their tour in New York City tomorrow.

UGH. People piss me off. I'm not a Kill Hannah fan but if assholes keep stealing bands' stuff, less people are going to not want to play Philly anymore.

WontbePathetic
Never really cared much for this band, but man, I would have to be away from home and have that happen. I hope everything turns out okay with all of these bands whos trailers were broken into.

zaizariii
damn whats up with all these thefts? 3 bands in 3 weeks..

APoetofSorts
For real guys? I'm from Philly, and I'm kinda embarrassed after these two stories. I really hope this doesn't scare away other bands from playing here. I know I didn't do it but I really hope that these two bands and other bands realize that not everyone in Philly is a huge douchenozzle.

Video director accuses This Providence of plagiarism

Alternative Press - Amy Toleson on 11/10/09 @ 9:14 PM - altpress.com

Music video director Andrew Bowser has posted a blog accusing This Providence of stealing his idea for the band's video for "Keeping On Without You." The video debuted on mtvU earlier today.

Bowser claims that he submitted a treatment for the video that the band and/or their label (Fueled By Ramen) and management passed on, and that the video the band subsequently shot has a striking similarity to what he originally pitched.

Bowser says that several elements from his pitch were used including a "desert landscape setting," a "junkyard setting," "dirty and tired lead characters searching for each other," "old photographs of lead characters" and "the lead character waking up on his back surrounded by trash."

A comment in the blog reportedly from the video's producer says that both Bowser's treatment and the script the band went with "run parallel with the lyrics" and cites specific reasons for the artistic choices. He also went on to say, "Before you go out and start causing a ruckus, think of all the directors that submit hundreds of treatments for each video, there are bound to be similar treatments every time. As a word of advice, the last thing you want to do is approach the label and management and publicly announce this stuff yourself, you'll just end up ostracized."

AP has reached out to the band for comment, but in the meantime, you can watch the video in question below.
