Craig Owens kicked out of Chiodos

"To all of our friends, family, and fans: We would like to let you know that we have let Craig Owens go as the singer of Chiodos. This decision was a necessary one. Out of respect for all of the hard work that we have put in together for all of these years we will not be discussing the specific reasons that this needed to happen. We wish Craig well . We will absolutely be continuing on as a band and we will keep you informed as this next chapter unfolds. Chiodos fans are the best fans in the world and all we can ask of you, after everything you have already given us, is to share in our excitement for this next album. We promise you will not be disappointed............Brad, Jason, Pat, and Matt"
This is the second member of Chiodos to get the boot this year; drummer Derrick Frost was served his walking papers in May.
No official comment has been issued by Owens at this time; earlier today, he tweeted, "Home for months - first time in a long time. I plan to write a song everyday, take vocal lessons & become much better at what I already do." He also recently announced plans for a solo covers EP.
Two days ago, Chiodos keyboardist Bradley Bell tweeted, "You've become inconvinient," which one can only assume relates to this decision.

I can see Chiodos following in the footsteps of From First To Last. A band at the top of their career, losing their lead singer, and disappearing into obscurity with their next release. Except in FFTL's case...Sonny left, he wasn't kicked out.

Craig Owens=Chiodos, solo project, Cinematic Sunrise, Isles & Glaciers. He's a busy guy. It's easier for Chiodos, as a band, to have a full-time front man then one who's there when he's not busy. Chiodos hasn't been good since All's Well That End's Well came out anyway.

LilJPenick that's just stupid, Underoath's Spencer Chamberlin did drugs and they didn't kick him out. They had problems with it, but eventually worked it out. I mean the guys in Chiodos just sound like they are using people "you've become inconvient" If someone has a drug problem you don't ditch them. You help them.
Without a vocalist, they're going to have to take a break, anyway. If drugs were really the problem, they'd take a break and get him help. It's just stupid and that's why they won't tell us. That FromLight guy up there, you're right. Bandmates are supposed to be like a family. You dont ditch your family if they have an addiction to drugs thats bringing down their life. While I seriously doubt that's the case with Craig, its stupid to have left him on his own. From this point on, I will have nothing to do with Chiodos. I'm deleting their music off of my iTunes and iPod as I type this. I can safely say that all of my respect for this band has been diminished with the loss of Craig.

The reason why people like Chiodos so much is because of Craig's unusual voice. It's what sets them apart. This is a great loss, and I personally think it's a really, really bad move. It's not about Craig being a 'front man', it's about his unique voice. I see this band failing without him.
LilJPenick, I'm not going to choose sides here because Chiodos isn't a band I really listen to except on rare occasions, but You have no proof that it even has to do with Craig having a drug addiction. If it is drugs, then like FromLightComesTheDark said, a band is like family. Kicking Craig out of the band is not going to solve anything. More likely, he'll grow depressed and turn to those drugs even more because he got kicked out and his band mates did nothing to help him.. Besides that, the tweet Bell made was just wrong. If they're going to treat him like shit, then let the band be forgotten and Craig go on with his side projects.

As talented as Craig Owens is, and he is a very talented frontman, this doesn't surprise me. Other bands have talked about how self-centered and egotistical he is. Unfortunately I do think this is the end of Chiodos.

Based on the obvious fact that Craig is an incredibly busy man, a part of so many projects, people may already have had this situation a probability sitting in the back of their minds.. I did. But the reality of it actually happening? Never, until now. I had a moment of complete shock when I received the tweet on my way home. Chiodos is notably-known for its unique vocals supplied by Craig Owens. Kicking Craig out is absolutely ridiculous; more-so is how the rest of Chiodos won't break out from their vague statement on the matter. It isn't fair for fans who have been supporting these guys for so long to not know. I understand Craig's limited availability, but I think this was a wrong move.

I'm pretty upset about this. Although I will still support the band, I wish they could elaborate on this. It pisses me off that they are being so closed towards us, the long term fans. As for Craig, hopefully he will do something similar to Anthony Green and just start a new band with some friends to "relinquish his demons" as he says. He will land on his feet no doubt, I just hope the band will do the same.

first of all, why are you guys saying that craig got kicked out because of a drug problem?Yes,he did overdose a year ago but im pretty sure he is over that.And if you look at jason's twitter,you will see that he also does drugs. Well, I only liked Chiodos because of Craig Owens! And I feel special that I saw his last show at Warped Tour! That was the first and last time that I saw him preform with Chiodos! Chiodos definetly made a shitty desicion.

When I saw Chiodos at warped tour as an impartial audience member it seemed to me like Mr. Owens was not a pleasant person nor did it seem like he was enjoying himself. I went to see their set to figure out if I wanted to get into the band like a lot of my friends. Craig Owens was very condescending to the crowd in his comments to them during the show. Owens gets a lot of credit as a dynamic frontman and I didnt see it on that day. The circumstances behind this news are related no doubt to Owens being let go by the band.

It's not the band's fault that Craig has been fucking up his life over the past couple years. The dude has a drug issue and on top of that he's battled depression in the past. The best thing for Craig is to get out of the scene and focus on himself. This should be his reality check. WAH WAH Craig Owens is gone. He's actually a piece of shit. Trust me, I know first hand. The dude is a waste case. Messaging his ladie fans online to get them to his hotel room only to force himself upon them. That's who Craig is. He's got a million issues he needs to deal with. He was holding that band back. Chiodos has made the right decision. One that should have been made a LONG time ago.
Okay...Even you have kept up with Chiodos over the years. They have been amazing, All's Well That Ends Well was possibly the greatest cd ever. Their next one though...the music was still amazing if you actually listen to it...but it just sounds like craig was trying to hard, and he just wanted more exposure so he can go around and be a player and fuck all kinds of little girls that think hes the hottest peice of ass on stage. This saddens me. Craig's voice was how people recognized Chiodos. Craig was Chiodos. Given that he was not the "mastermind" and it was a group effort, they are missing a vital part of the Chiodos sound. His sound was unique...even though it was not perfection. He will truly be missed. And if they cared more about their bandmate and friend, they would stick with him and get him help. I think the comment about him being "inconvenient" is out of pure selfishness. You don't abandon someone at a time like this when he needs help and support more than anything. If they're going to take a break to gather themselves, they could help a brother out.

I read most of the comments on here and I agree with most of them. Normally Im against the whole hate mail thing but Chiodos really did screw themselves over. It takes a certain person to listen to Craig and actually appreciate his lyrics and his voice. Craigs voice made the Chiodos songs what they are, the high notes were a perfect match to his amazing lyrics. The tweet that Brad sent to Craig was disrespectful it pretty much said you think your better then us and have more bands that you think are more important. hello Brad your in 2 of those bands!!! so my only question is will these bands still be going on? Even after what Brad had said? idk but I hope Craig does cause he's very talented

chiodos is nothing with craig, its like the escape the fate situation. at least he has isles and glaciers and solo career, but its not like isles can go on tour anytime when the guys have their own bands. my first and last time i saw chiodos is exactly that. i just hope that they're friends still or get back in the future. chiodos was craig's baby. this just blows!!! i just don't want craig to do something bad, i so want to give him a hug right now.

Craig Owens is a great singer and equally as great a front man. To say that he is Chiodos, isn't justified in any way. We all know that Chiodos makes a sound all their own and finding someone with the vocal caliber of Craig Owens will be tough, but not impossible. When Anthony Green left Saosin it was death to all fans. Cove Reber is a talented vocalist who changed Saosin in a great way, not the same but awesome. I personally am very upset about the decision to cast him off, but i am so excited to see what these very talented guys can bring to the table next. Chiodos is not one person; it is the chemistry of them all. He wasnt working out so lets turn the page and see what you have next...
P.S, the decision to keep the reason behind his leaving is in no way an insult. We have no clue what could have gone down and if it was something that could possibly tarnish the name of the band as a whole or Craig as a person, i feel its better left unsaid.. we all love Chiodos, so lets stick it out and see if they can bring what we really want and that is good hard weird awesome soft beautiful ugly harsh music. P.S.S. i dont think it was drugs at all... Craig is touring alone right now he is also in 3 other bands... i think the guys were tired of falling shirt in Craig's eyes and decided if they want to really finish some shit that need everyone on team Chiodos... Craig for the past two years or so has been doing multiple things, its hard to make time for the things that dont mean as much and i have read interviews with Craig where he has said he ultimately wants cinematic sunrise to be his thing... he just wasn't in it 100%. i was shocked when i read the tweets and myapace blog about this issue. it is sad to hear this news, which is so common for many of today's bands. To say that Craig is Chiodos, is an understatement for many reasons. Chiodos is his baby, he started it in High School. He IS Chiodos, and I can't see it any other way. I hope Craig can overcome this obstacle and still be able to move forward with his career. I don't beleive that the other 4 members should be allowed to call themselves Chiodos. I believe that this band will have the fate of many, and slowely self destruct, and eventually break up. It's sad to think and say, but Chiodos, in my opinion, is over.
I never wanted to get involved with internet hate. But seriously the people that are saying he's a drug addict, an asshole, a womanizer..... get real. Craig is an amazing musician and a very passionate human being. I've been lucky enough to know him before he was the almighty front man and to me he hasn't changed as a caring, loving guy. He is a musician who is constantly being critiqued. He deals with struggles most of us have no clue of and most of us will probably never understand. I've seen him perform more times than i could ever keep track of and every time he performs with the same honesty and dedication to his craft. He is a real person and a wonderfully talented artist.
when i saw this yesterday after school my heart sunk. they were perfection together. seeing as craig and brad and mat started this band its not the best idea to kick out a founding member. and brads tweet was completly un called for and quite childish. craig did have side projects but they were for nothing but making music and putting out an ep. craig has even stated there will be no more cinsun.brad is guilty of being in this project, jason is in king, derek was in another project, and mat and craig were part of I&G.craig has put chiodos first in everything he has done. its such a dissapointment that they would do this to him and the fans cuz they have jealousy issues. brad cant replace him
im really not surprised that they kicked him out, but i love craig and i hope he gets his stuff together. hes hella talented, and im glad i saw them at warped tour. but to be honest, i only really listened to chiodos because of craig. so i probably wont listen to them anymore, we'll see though. i think chiodos made a mistake, they could of given him a break and let him work out his problems but they didnt, i dont see how they could ever try and replace him. chiodos wont ever be the same.
I agree with these guys! Obviously the guy didnt care about the band anymore cause he is too busy with his 4 other bands. They lost a good vocalist but made a good move. they need memeber dedicated to the band, and im sure they can find another good singer that will care.

I'm going to state the facts of how I came to the realization that Craig had been let go. I was at home yesterday, when my dad said he had possibly seen that Craig Owens had been kicked out of Chiodos. I was so disapointed. I said Chiodos is no longer my favourite band. I am now going to emerse myself in popcore. Particularly A Day To Remember. When Chiodos 2010 album comes out, I'm still contemplating getting it or not. That being said I should have seen this coming. In the Most Anticipated Albums '09 in Alt Press they said the release date for the new Chiodos album would be 2009. A recent Wikipedia check has the album release date as 2010. :/
This sucks, Craig brought such a unique sound to the world of music but so say that he was the best thing to happen to music? Thats a stretch. Honestly, if you're a real fan, it makes sense to be upset about the situation but I really don't think we deserve to know every little detail of why this is happening. Half of you feel like the band owes you something, like you've earned something. You've given years of loyalty and they've given you music that you love. That's how music works. Don't try and fool yourselves into thinging that you have a right to know because you're their "biggest fan". Please get over youself and make room for real fans who support the entire group.
Our heros are human. I've met Craig. (By the way he was very nice.) He posed for a photo both times I saw him in Toronto (Warped Tour and a Solo Show) I've gone all the way to Michigan to see him. He is talented, gifted and can hit the high notes rivaling Michael Jackson. (I know I'm going to get flamed for that comparison. ><) BUT he was human! Are you going to turn on him JUST BECAUSE HE HAS PROBLEMS? Then you never were true fans or friends. Same thing with M.J. He was doing amazing. Then some random sexual molestation charges are brought against him and the public and media call him a pedophile, Wako Jacko and the like. They go from calling him the King of Pop to a pedophile.

Don't get me wrong. I love Craig. He is my hero. He and I have the same mental illness: Bipolar (Though I believe he's type one, I'm type two.) Drug use and a very high libido are possible characteristics of bipolar. They are also very creative. Bipolar is both a blessing and a curse. Half of bipolars commit suicide or overdose on drugs. This could be Craig's fate if he doesn't recieve the help he needs. Chiodos proved how heartless and how little they cared by kicking him out and leaving him to fend for himself. Maybe Craig refused their help. Maybe. Probably However Chiodos should have banded together and brought the help TO HIM. Our heros are human. They have flaws. And so do you.
I always tell people: when you meet your hero don't scream and act like a fangirl. Celebrities, artists and actors are regular people like you and me. They are human. Treat them as such. They just have a better job then you do. ;) In summary, Craig is a great musician and artist. Chiodos lost someone great, but it was nessecary. They didn't want to release any info out of respect for their careers and Craigs. So what kind of friend are you saying all this. This is the most shit i've seen in awhile. They were my favorite band every since 5th grade now i feel like i lost a part of me. i went to all the concerts around where i live now i don't even think i wanna go see them. i met craig at warped tour in pittsburgh and that was great. now i don't know what to do this is like hell for me. They are going to be nothing without him he made them what they are. nobody could ever in this world replace him at frontman.

yeah but ronnie isnt hard to replace aha he didnt have a unique tone to his voice. I know a million singers that sounded like Ronnie and many people can replace him. Craig cant be replaced

i read everything everyones saying and you all have good points but the only thing that i could say in my opinion is chiodos made a mistake letting craig go and the only thing i could say my thoughts are about chiodos letting him go is the line from baby, you wouldn't last a minute on the creek that says "this is probably the best, not to mention the worst idea that i have ever had"
If you guys never seen this coming, you're stupid. He's a part of 2 other bands, and he's doing a solo thing. Are they really suppose to sit around and wait for him to decide when he's ready to start a new record? The drug problem-- I'm sure they have tried helping him with it. Maybe he didn't accept the help. Don't start hating on them and calling them heartless because of it. I really don't believe that's the main reason they let him go. And everyone that's saying Craig IS Chiodos. WTF? He's not. Yes, he has a beautiful voice, but he wouldn't be able to do it without the rest of them. I don't know, maybe I'm just crazy, but I look beyond the lead vocals. Chiodos has a very unique sound even without Craig. And it's pathetic that a lot of the fans listen to Chiodos because they think Craig is just the most gorgeous fucking thing that's walked this fucking earth. (You know it's fucking true.) Very, very few times have I gone to a show and heard people speaking about the band as a whole. For the most part, it's just a bunch of retards talking about how they want to hump Craig.. I just think it's stupid that once a band drops their lead singer everyone starts hating. Chiodos will find what they're looking for, and be even more successful then they are now. Wow. I simply can't believe this. First of all, I love Chiodos. Or did... Whatever. They are one of my favorite bands. They are so unique. Honestly, I kinda wondered about this a long time ago. I have to admit Craig does seem a little full of himself. You can tell he doesn't seem as close to the other guys in videos and what not. But he still seems like a very nice guy. He was nice when I met him and he always puts on a good show. Chiodos is not Chiodos without Craig. Simple as that. I'm not saying the remaining band members can't continue to make music, but they need to be more respectful and change the name. And give their fans some more information than just this...
By the way, what happened to Frost? I heard he left the band... Now I'm hearing he was kicked out too? What's up with that? He didn't seem to have problems with the guys. Yes, Craig had a lot of side projects. But I always felt his heart was with Chiodos. He always came back to it and went on tour. And this drug thing... No one can know for sure. I think we all know he tried to commit suicide. That doesn't neccesarily mean he has a drug addiction. I totally support Craig. He has such a unique voice. I'm sad to see him go. But I support the other guys as well. They just need to be a little more mature. I will give the new CD a shot... But it will never be the same. Change the band name!

What bands fail to realize, is that people fall in love with a certain sound. When that sound is tampered with...the love is no longer there. That's why you always hear "I like old Green day better " or "Chiodos is not Chiodos". Craig Owens was Chiodos sound and by making that decision they have lost the love and respect of their fans. I would absolutely change your name. It would be shameful to call yourselves Chiodos ever again.
