Be Your Own Pet set release date for new album

Jason Pettigrew on 11/28/07 @ 2:30 PM

Nashville's barely illegal punks Be Your Own Pet have finished work on the folow-up to 2006's self-titled release. The new album is called Get Awkward and is slated for release March 18, 2008. Drummer John Eatherly explains:
"We took out a good chunk of time to record the album with Steven McDonald in Nashville, which we are all really proud of."
Guitarist Jonas Stein chimes in,
"I think all the songs are better and more consistent throughout. I like listening to the new one better. We recorded the first album when we were kids. Now we are still kids, but kids well more on our way to adulthood. I think you can hear that in the new album."
Anybody see Eatherly playing on Conan O'Brien with a face full of shaving cream? Oh, you cwazy kidz...

Butch Walker loses "everything" in CA wildfires

Rachel Lux on 11/28/07 @ 12:41 PM

Artist and music producer Butch Walker, known for his work with artists such as Avril Lavigne, Fall Out Boy and the Academy Is... suffered sizable property loss in the Malibu, California, wildfires this week. According to MTV.com, Walker said in a press release he was renting a $4.8 million house in Corral Canyon owned by Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, which was destroyed over the weekend. Walker had recently moved his recording studio equipment to Malibu from Atlanta.

A statement from Walker reads:
"I lost everything I've ever owned. Every master of every song I've ever recorded, every piece of recording equipment, guitars, drums and things I've collected over the years, cars, motorcycles, every family memorial, heirloom, picture and document we ever had. ... Gone. I feel like I finally know the difference between 'going back' and 'going home.' "
