AltPress exclusive: Blink-182 play surprise show in Hollywood
Scott Heisel on 5/15/09 @ 3:05 AM
For those wondering when Blink-182 would play their first show after announcing their reunion this past February, Alternative Press has some big, big news: The pop-punk trio performed a surprise set tonight at a private event outside at Paramount Studios in Hollywood, California.
At approximately 11:55 p.m. PDT, less than 30 seconds after drummer Travis Barker and DJ AM finished up a collaborative set, vocalist/bassist Mark Hoppus and vocalist/guitarist Tom DeLonge took the stage in front of a crowd of more than a thousand invited guests, including members of Fall Out Boy and Motion City Soundtrack as well as Kevin Spacey, Ryan Reynolds, Paris Hilton, rapper Warren G, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, Kelly Osbourne and more.
Blink opened their mini-set with "The Rock Show" off 2001's Take Off Your Pants And Jacket, followed by Hoppus joking, "This is our very first show after hating each other's guts for many years." Next came "Feeling This," from 2003's untitled disc. The trio closed with their most iconic song, "Dammit," the first single from 1997's seminal Dude Ranch before leaving the stage.
"It was one of the best nights of my life," says Hoppus on his website. "Thanks to everyone who was there. Thanks to T-Mobile. And most of all, thanks to Travis and Tom. You are my brothers, and it feels amazing to share the stage with you once again." Hoppus also posted some photos up.
The party, sponsored by T-Mobile, also featured Blink's future tourmates, Weezer in a new, five-piece lineup, with drummer Pat Wilson on third guitar and Josh Freese of the Vandals/DEVO/etc. behind the kit. Among the songs Weezer performed were "Perfect Situation," "Beverly Hills" and "Buddy Holly," plus covers of Lady GaGa's "Poker Face" and MGMT's "Kids."
Keep checking back with AltPress.com for exclusive photos of the party, including Blink-182's first public performance in over four years, later today. In the meantime, check out some fan-shot video footage:

Have Heart announce break-up following world tour
Ben Sailer on 5/15/09 @ 1:06 AMThe prominent hardcore act had the following to say regarding their decision to end their time as a band:
Once the Fall rolls around, we can't really do this band the way we would prefer to anymore. Knowing this deadline of ours and having a whole world tour already booked, we'd like to take advantage of the chance to say goodbye to all the people we have met around the world over the years. So, please come check us out in the remaining months on our little trip around the globe. So far Asia has been a wonderful experience and we're very happy to have had the chance to meet so many kind people and look forward to the rest of Asia. It's been a nice 7 years and we'd like to thank all the unique hardcore kids and bands we have encountered. And in the words of DFJ, thanks to all the shit talkers for all the material to get off on. But, really....we have met so many wonderful people who we'll just never forget.
The band will be playing their last show on National Edge Day on Oct. 17 somewhere in the Boston area at a venue yet to be determined. They put out their final release, the critically acclaimed Songs To Scream At The Sun, last year on Bridge 9.

Chiodos looking for a new drummer
Tim Karan on 5/14/09 @ 8:35 PM
A statement for the band reads:
"After rocking together for nearly 5 years, we have decided to part ways with our drummer Derrick Frost. We've got nothing but love for the guy, we just feel it is the right move at this time as a band. Don't worry, there was no crazy drama or anything of the sort that needs everyone freaking out about. We are parting on good terms and are very thankful for the time and dedication the Derrick has given us and our fans over the past years. We send him our best wishes on whatever he pursues next and we know that you all will as well. We ask that you continue to support us as the bonded musicians that we still are as we continue to write new music and enjoy old tunes together. Because currently we are getting deep into writing a new record, and are beyond stoked to finish it up for all to hear!"
If you'd like a chance to be the next drummer for Chiodos--and have touring experience--e-mail keyboardist Bradley Bell at bradleydbell@gmail.com.
