Ryan Key to have surgery; Yellowcard postpone summer shows

Ryan Key, frontman of violin-enhanced pop-punkers Yellowcard, has announced that, due to ongoing throat problems, he will undergo surgery to remove a cyst from his vocal cords after the conclusion of the Virgin College Mega Tour, which his band are currently headlining. The recovery from surgery will cause the band to miss or reschedule a handful of their May/June shows.

"We're disappointed to be postponing these dates, but it's a relief to know the source of the problems I'd been having with my voice," says Key. "And it's much better to confront it now than later when it could be far more serious. But we'll be back on the road in June when we can give 100%. Our fans deserve nothing less."

The affected U.S. dates are:

5/18 Boston, MA Lansdowne Street Music Hall
5/19 Providence, RI Lupo's
5/28 Columbia, MD Merriweather Post Pavilion

6/01 Tempe, AZ Marquee Theatre (rescheduled for Aug. 9)
6/02 Tucson, AZ Rialto Theatre (rescheduled for Aug. 7)
6/03 Albuquerque, NM Sunshine Theatre (rescheduled for Aug. 8)
6/05 Las Vegas, NV House of Blues (rescheduled for Aug. 5)
6/07 Bakersfield, CA Rabobank Arena (rescheduled for Aug. 10)
