The music forums are lacking lately. So I figured Id throw this one up.

Say Anything's fourth album, Say Anything came out today. The album didnt really have a leak. They put it up on their myspace the other day but it wasnt the full album.

After giving this a couple of spins... Eh, I have mixed feelings about this album. I feel like since this is their Self titles album that this was supposed to be their best album. In comparison to In Defense of the Genre, this is a huge step up. In Defense was a huge let down. 27 songs and it could have easily been 12 songs or even a 6 song EP.
I pre-ordered the huge package and now finally getting to hear the new album in its fullest; I just feel disappointed. They hyped this album too much.

I still feel that ...Is A Real Boy and Baseball are by far their best albums.

Have you heard the new album?
Would you like to?
This is just a general Say Anything discussion

I asked for it for Christmas from my mom.

and, I feel like ...Is a Real Boy is such a classic it's one of those albums that can't be touched. I mean, not to sound like a bitch but Max was crazy back when he wrote that and the raw emotion of it cannot be matched.

Today I was in an online forum about good screamo/hard core bands. I don't listen to that kind of music, but I made up a band name and posted it. All the kids are going crazy because they've never heard of them. MLIA.

...Is a Real Boy I just dont even know how to describe it. Its just such
a solid album. From start to finish it has you hooked.
Not too mention the extra EP that came with it. Even adding that on to the
album almost makes the album even better.

So Ive listened to a few other tracks a couple more times. My favorite
right now is Fed to Death. My only problem with this song is that its too
short. This album seems like it will grow on me.

I put up a link to the leak last week over at the place that shall not be named.  I thought you were over there too.  Sorry, if I knew you weren't I would have sent you the link because I know you're a fan.

I am pretty disappointed.. From what I have heard, which is all that is up on ms, I am digging 2 songs. I have givin it like 3 or 4 plays and it's just not sticking to me, I am so sad now.

I really like the new, stable Max Bemis. I think that these songs are generally better than the entire second half of Is A Real Boy. The first roughly 6-7 tracks of that album are some of the best punk-indie-whatever songs of the decade.

^Totally just listened to that song. Don't get me wrong the couple songs I like are f*ckin killer and I play them a ton I just don't seem to be clicking with the rest. And yes, ...Is a real boy had a good amount of filler but there were like 12 or so solid songs on that album.

S.O.S. to my mother, take the hinges off the door.

I used to like this band. I don't really know why I stopped. I guess I grew out of them? But that sounds really pretentious. I just can't think of a better way to say it . . . maybe it's also because I associate them with a really bad time in my life? Who knows.

I haven't given this album too much focus, gave it one full through listen
(well what Anthony sent me) and I haven't gone back, I'd rather listen to
...is a real boy, and I do like In Defense Of The Genre, although I feel like
it could have easily just been one album.

haha wow. i'd have to disagree with just about all of you. i am totally all about this album. it's just... one of my favorite albums of all time, to be honest. i love it from beginning to end.

i also really enjoyed In Defense Of The Genre and ...Is A Real Boy, but i think this is my favorite. (Baseball was okay...)

i guess that's why we're all allowed to have different opinions, huh?

Im not.

I do enjoy this album. But when it comes to tracks like Property it just
makes me question max bemis. I can tell that its supposed to be funny
but I dont find it all that funny.

This album gets a solid 6.5 from me.
All Im saying is that for their self titles this could have been better.

I have decided, after looking at the liner notes for this album long enough, that the kid in the artwork (if he were real) would potentially be the most awesome kid of the moment. Who comes up with and executes such elaborate set pieces at that age?

Long story short - Say Anything Kid is amazing.

I got my pre order today.
The packaging and the poster are pretty awesome.

This came with a shirt I wont ever wear.
Gatefold double vinyl.
Guitar Picks
The CD
A 9 track acoustic demo
a double sided poster
A signed Hate Everyone lyric sheet.

I think what I liked more than the actual album was the acoustic 9 track
demo. This makes me have a tiny bit more appreciation for this album.
So I guess my score for this album can go up by a point. 7.5 for this
album from me.

My mother on the other hand hates this album. My mom loved ...Is a
real boy and In Defense. She took one listen and said "I hate this, they
could do better"

Your mom is awesome. I just picked this up yesterday. Going to give it a couple more listens before I come up with a verdict. I need to hear the 9 demos. If only I had the money for the preorder package.

Acoustic Demos>Actual Album

Hate Everyone is the only song I prefer on the actual album...even though
I do enjoy the "I hate my bestfriend who tricked me into telling my whole
class was gay" part I laughed

^ SEE I TOLL YOU (for some reason i said that to myself in Dana's voice
from the gonnies). I just feel like theres more meaning in the acoustic
songs.
I went for a drive tonight listening to them. I love them.

EDIT: I would feel kind of odd by doing this but I think the acoustic demos might make my top 10 of the year. I just for some reason love these more than the real songs.
