I'm hoping I've been around long enough to post a new topic. And seeing as how there is no specific topic for book discussion, I thought I'd start one. What are your favorite books? What are you reading now? What have you read and absolutely hated? My favorite books are Pride & Prejudice, The Mists of Avalon, Gone With the Wind, Women Who Run With the Wolves, and anything by Christopher Moore, but especially You Suck. I also love Hamlet, Othello and Macbeth, even though they're not necessarily books. Right now I'm reading Dante's Divine Comedy, Poetry 180 (an anthology w/ intro by my fav poet Billy Collins), and I'm just starting Alice in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass. I have yet to meet a book that I absolutely hate. I read Gone With the Wind for the first time when I was 13, Mists of Avalon when I was 15. Basically, I love books, the good, the bad, and the extremely difficult to muddle through. (Which is why I'm voluntarily reading Dante)
Now THAT is punk bitches.

^ I saw the book thread on the very bottom of the next page. Ooops! Oh wells, time to start a new discussion. I have a copy of the unabridged Count of Monte Cristo, I just have to get around to it. It's rather large and daunting.

My favorite book would have to be A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. I also love everything by Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker, especially when they colaborate. Dean Koontz and Stephen King I will read on occasion. I am also addicted to the Twilight series but I will be the first to admit it's the cheesiest thing ever and if it wasn't for the vampires I would have never read it. I am currently reading Brian "Head" Welch's "Save me From Myself" If the dawn means the day is upon us, I say forever I will hide in the shadows. And if maturity means I am condemned to the cold, I will forever burn bright in childishness. If they tell me to settle for one who is less than ideal, I will always, always be alone. And if the tide brings in a trend of apathy, I will drown in my passion before it is taken away. And finally, if being warm, happy, content, and well-adjusted means selling myself to become what they say I should be, I will scream in the pain and agony of my abnormality for all eternity. -Andrew Schwabb, Project 86

I don't think I really have any FAVORITE books. I typically love everything I read. Recently I've finished Survivor, Slaughterhouse-Five, The Bell Jar and High Fidelity. Right now I'm working on House of Leaves and Life of Pi. And intermittently I'm reading Sex, Drugs & Cocoa Puffs (it's great for when I only have 10 or 15 minutes to read). I've got a ginormous list of books I still want to read... I've been through 8 years straight of college where I didn't read anything so I need to catch up. Plus I've realized that my high school reading requirements were totally lacking. I definitely need to get some more Palahniuk because Survivor was great. I also want to read a Clockwork Orange. Oh, and more Vonnegut.
I need more balance, a more distanced perspective. I should accept what is. nightmares are a part of existence.

^^ I totally read Harry Potter. It's one of those series you don't like to admit you love because it's so commercial and just sounds lame when you say "OMG. Did you read the 7th Harry Potter?!?!". But yeah, I like them. But everyone here needs to read The Book Thief. I've read a bunch of Holocaust/WWII books, and this one's the best, IMO. I cried like ... 5 times. And it's pretty hard to make me cry.

My favorite book is The Fountainhead. The books I'm reading right now are Anna Karenina, Atlas Shrugged (the ending...I never quite finished it a few months ago), Only Revolutions...and I ordered Oil at the bookstore, so it should be here by next week. And I just finished Anthem for the third time.
I hope that it turns out the way that you dreamed.

^^ honestly, the only book i liked by her was anthem. i tried reading atlas shrugged and i just couldnt stand her charecters. should i try again? anyway ive been reading lord of the flies again because of my english class. beautiful book, very complex theames. also, did anyone read the hall family chronicals when they were a kid? they were thease beautiful kids books all about transidentalisim and walden and the main carecters would explore religion and morality. not enough people read them or have even heard of them. they're by the lady who wrote the fledgling and they start with the dimond in the window.

Heavy metal and you by Chris Krovatin. If you like realistic fiction, and stories of adolescence love - that - doesn't - quite work. this book is for you. I loved it, its inspiring and empowering
