It seems that my beloved Metalcore/Trash talk thread has broken, so I decided to make a new thread for Metal discussion, appreciation, and theory. I'm already starting to have withdrawals from the lack of Metal talk that I've been experiencing over the last couple of days so let's do this! What are some of y'alls favorite metal bands?

I am currently jamming "Dante's Inferno" by Iced Earth. I am a happy man. Metallica is the greatest thrash metal band of all time. I don't care if their music isn't as good anymore. I don't care that they did Reload. I don't care about the hair cuts. I don't care about Napster. I wouldn't even care if they did a fucking duet with Celine Dion for a fucking Pepsi commercial. The only thing I care about is that they did Master of Puppets. All their crimes (past, present, or future) are forgiven because of that album.

^^ Stormtroopers of Death right? I was debating whether or not to pick up an oddly shaped vinyl of theirs at the store the other day, but I decided against it. Did you get the new Iced Earth by any chance? It's more of the same, but since that has never been a bad thing...

Iced Earth... Are they that good? If so, what are some of their stand out tracks Metallica's Master of Puppets is seriously one of my favorite albums of all time. The first time I heard Battery, my head damn near exploded. I still like their new stuff, too but there is no comparison to everything before the Black Album.

^ Download both discs(I heard they are three, but I only own the two disc copy) of Alive in Athens. Great Iron Maiden "tribute" band.

^ Sounds good Iron Maiden's first self-titled album was one of the most influential albums for me. Paul Di'Anno was their lead singer for their first two albums, and even though he was not where near as talented as Bruce Dickinson, I still loved that album. As far as Death/Speed/Trash Metal goes, here are some of my very early influential songs: Slayer - Raining Blood At The Gates - Under a Serpent Sun Death - Spiritual Healing Iron Maiden - The Trooper Exodus - A Lesson in Violence (the live one's good) Metallica - Battery Anybody listen to Into Eternity?

^ Hell yes. I've never had the pleasure of seeing them live. I saw a youtube video of them doing "Timeless Winter" and their singer nailed that high note perfectly. Great band My favorite song it either Out, Severe Emotional Distress, or Splintered Visions. Yours?

I heard All Shall Perish for the first time yesterday. A couple of my friends worship them. I'm not sure how I feel about the band yet.

Just what Celadon said. But at a bare minimum download "Dante's Inferno". It's a Cliff Notes of Inferno, kindda like "One" or "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" but ten times as epic. By the time it gets to the choir singing in Latin you will want to sacrifice your dog to the Dark One.
