There has to be a ton of MCS threads but I havent seen one in a long
time. Today Motion City Soundtrack released their new single
Disappear. Their new album is titled My Dinosaur Life. I absolutely
cannot wait for this album. If you read the news post on the front page
they say that My Dinosaur Life will be coming out in early 2010.

Have you heard the new single?
What does everyone think of Motion City Soundtrack?
Are you excited for the new album?
Whats your favorite album?

This is pretty much just a general Motion City Soundtrack thread.

Motion City Soundtrack was one of the first bands that really showed
me what music is.  I put them up there with NFG. They really got me
through High school. I absolutely love this band. My favorite album by
far is Commit This To Memory. I remember being a freshmen in High
school and relating to this album.

If you want to check out the new single send me a PM and Ill send it
your way.

If any more news on MCS pops up Ill post it here.

I was really surprised by the new single, Disappear, I
wasn't expecting it to sound the way it did. I'm
complaining at all, I like it, I was just expecting
something semi-similar to their last albums. It
certainly made me more excited about their upcoming
album; especially, because they're one of my favorite
bands.

My favorite album would have to probably be either I
am the Movie
or Commit This to Memory.

From the looks of it, it looks like they're going back
on tour. They're doing the three night thing in Chicago
(I believe that's the city they're doing it in), and
then their annual Halloween show in Minneapolis.

I think MCS is one of the most overrated bands out there these days.

Just downloaded it. I love Justin's voice in it, like I always do. I think there's a serious lack of moog that should be fixed.

They're one of my favorite bands. I've seen them four times--twice in one week.

This goes without saying. I preordered Even If It Kills Me so I could get the shirt and the signed CD booklet. I couldn't wait for it to be shipped, so I went and bought it during my lunch hour. Then I wound up with two copies of it.

Whats your favorite album?

I think they all have their strong points. I Am The Movie had incredible energy, and I really fell in love with the keyboard. Commit This To Memory is one of the few CDs I can listen to all the way through without feeling the need to skip a song. Even If It Kills Me has my favorite song (ever), Point Of Extinction, on it. They grew a lot with EIIKM too.

Okay. I'm done now.

i love this song. thank god.

i loved the first two albums but the last one put me to sleep, not what i need from MCS. this sounds like its back to the usual. mark's production is top notch too. excited for the album now.

I was thinking the same thing. It is there. You can barely hear it.

I think there is something unique about every album. Though I wasnt
too happy with Even If It Kills Me, I still loved it. I am the Movie
definitely shows how much energy the band has. Commit This to
Memory most definitely showed how musically talented the band is.
That album is my favorite album of all time. Even If It Kills Me, to me
just shows how they can have fun with their music.  That album was a
snoozer though.

The new song has been on reply nonstop. This song is unreal its so
good.

I always feel like the odd man out when talking about this band, but I
didn't really "get" Motion City Soundtrack until Even If It Kills Me came
out.
I loved a few select songs from three of their previous releases that I
have (I'm considering Kids For America in the count), but I didn't fall in
love with MCS until EIIKM came out. I tried SO HARD to give them a
chance but I didn't really connect with their music until this last
release; there was just something there that I hadn't before seen.

Anyways, I'm excited for their newest release and I am really looking
forward to hear what they're going to do with it. I'm hoping that after
me liking  this last album as much as I did, their new stuff will sit better
with me than past releases.

Maybe this time I can follow through.

After listening to it more, it kinda reminds me of a cross between "Don't Call It A Comeback" and "Invisible Monsters."

I love it. All of my friends who I've shared it with thus far have loved it.

i haven't listened to the single yet, but i just hope it's better than the last record. what a terrible disappointment. i'm a fan of this band, and - insensitive as it might be to say - i really hope that justin pierre has redeveloped his alcoholism so this record isn't awful.

people without substance abuse problems shouldn't make music (says the guy who worships ian mackaye).

Thanks Ant.

I like what I've heard. They sound less poppy (to me anyways) but I like it. I'll have to listen to it more for it to sink in, but yeah, I like it.

Oh, and I should add, I like it.

^^^ I was kind of thinking the same thing... At first when I heard they
were releasing the single I was thinking that I hope this sounds as
good as when he was a druggie and an alcoholic.
He wrote some of the greatest music when he was under the influence.

Though, he did give in like once or twice when they wrote EIIKM, I
remember reading the article in AP saying that the fate of the band
was undecided because of his little mess up.

I think just by Disappear, this album is going to be much better than
EIIKM. Plus they are working with Mark Hoppus again, who worked on
Commit This To Memory and that album is a masterpiece.

I wish I lived in Chicago so I could go to the 3 shows they are putting
on where they are just playing songs from one album. Or the
Halloween show.

I feel like I'm the only person who actually liked EIIKM. I thought the lyrics were excellent, even if the instrumentals lacked energy (with the exception of "Fell In Love Without You").

Man, it's really disappointing to me to hear that nobody liked Even If It Kills Me :/

*edit* I didn't see Maggie's post. I like it too, Maggie. We'll go down in history as the only two members who liked it.

^ and ^^ I did like EIIKM. It just wanst as good as Commit This To
Memory. Or I am the Movie for that matter.

I think if it had been an EP it would have been better

It was just lacking in everything. My favorite track off of EIIKM was... Even
If It Kills Me.

^ Even If It Kills Me was my second favorite. And yeah, in comparison to their previous releases, it lacked things.
Just curious--if it would have been an EP, which songs would you have liked on it?

^
1. Fell In Love Without You
2. Last Night
3. The Conversation
4. Broken Heart
5. Hello Helicopter
6. Even If It Kills Me

Thats not to say I didn't like the other songs. I just felt that Those
songs were way better than the rest. I think if this were the EP and a
couple other tracks came out as b-sides I would have found EIIKM
much more enjoyable.

Im pretty much going to back up what everyone else is saying
new single=OMFGSOFRIGGINGOODYUSSSSSSS

I love this band so so much words cannot even begin to develge in the depths of my love.
commit this to memory was a really important album for me back when I was going through some sh*t. I used to listen to it for hours at night when i couldn't sleep

even if it kills me didn't leave an impression either way
but anyway the new single makes me happy not only cause its so fricking awesome but also because I'll get to see them again on tour!

All of this.  I am soooo hoping for this album to be good.  I'm a huge MCS fan & they were one of the bands that really made me see what the big deal was about seeing a band live.  They're always so much fun.

My Dinosaur Life Officially has a release date. January 19th.
If this leaks before January 1st. It will atomically have the 1 or 2 spot on
my top ten of the year.

So not only did it get a release date. The track listing and album art was released. I have mixed feelings about the artwork.

1. Worker Bee
2. A Lifeless Ordinary (Need A Little Help)
3. Her Words Destroyed My Planet
4. Disappear
5. Delirium
6. History Lesson
7. Stand Too Close
8. Pulp Fiction
9. @!#?@!
10. Hysteria
11. Skin And Bones
12. The Weakends
