New Atlantic
HQ: Philadelphia, PANOW PLAYING: The Streets, The Sounds, And The Love (EYEBALL) THE STORY SO FAR: Some bands spend their fourth show ever just learning to play in tune. But indie-pop upstarts New Atlantic spent their fourth show a state away in Ohio on tour with Cartel. That's just one sign that the band are capable of quickly stirring up buzz. Want another? They sold more than 4,000 copies of their self-released EP before Eyeball Records snagged them last summer and released their full-length debut (which was produced by Casey Bates and Bobby Darling of Gatsbys American Dream). "They really helped us find ourselves," says vocalist Giovanni Gianni. WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: They write anthemic, arena-filling pop and their role models have sold a few stadium tickets, too. "There are a lot of bands that write pop music," says Gianni. "But we want to be...legit. There are bands like the Killers, who I think are legit. Or U2. [Or] Third Eye Blind." And if you catch New Atlantic this summer with theAudition and the Graduate, don't even think of cavalierly adding the word "punk" after their brand of pop. That's just not them. "On mtvU, they were interviewing these three kids about our song, and this one girl said, 'Yeah, I like them, but in general, I'm not really into the pop-punk thing,'" says Gianni. "We all started just laughing. I was like, 'What are you talking about?'" - Ed Masley YOU LIKE?
