The Promise Hero

HQ: Cleveland, OH
NOW PLAYING: Wait For The Sun (TDR; tdrrecords.net)
THE STORY SO FAR: Cleveland's the Promise Hero are proof that persistence pays off. "I would call up [vocalist/guitarist Bobby Vaughn] and beg him to sing in a band, and he'd always say, 'No,' and be kind of mean about it," explains TPH guitarist Daniel Weiss, laughing. "Eventually, I cajoled him into doing it." Last year, the pop-punks made their way to Tempe, Arizona, where they recorded their debut full-length with producer Jamie Woolford (the Stereo, Let Go) and newly added bassist Jeff DiLorenzo and drummer Frank Fini. "[Once we made it to Arizona,] we were there for the sake of making the album, so our entire focus was on that," says Weiss. "It was, like, nine hours a day for two weeks; it was crunch time."
WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: The finished product, Wait For The Sun, has kept the four-piece busy promoting and playing shows-something that comes naturally to them. "We all grew up around music," explains Weiss. "Frank, our drummer, used to play in polka bands with his dad-he did that since he was, like, 6 years old, which is funny. My mother is a jazz singer, and my dad got me into every band that I like." The Promise Hero will tour this summer while honing their songwriting skills with some very specific goals in mind. "We don't set out to create something gimmicky," Weiss says. "It's classic songwriting with loud guitars." -Jennifer Grathwol
