NOW PLAYING: Sing It Loud EP (EPITAPH; epitaph.com)
THE STORY SO FAR: Sing It Loud formed last year when Minneapolis scene veterans (and cousins) Pat Brown and Kieren Smith grew restless after the demise of their previous touring bands and began writing songs together. Early on, Sing It Loud found themselves in the right place at the right time: Playing their third show opening band for hometown heroes Motion City Soundtrack. Sing It Loud's energy and professionalism caught the attention of MCS guitarist Josh Cain, who produced the group's upcoming full length and did the legwork to secure the band a spot on the Epitaph roster. "Everything happened to us so quickly," admits Smith. "It's scary, but it's cool. We never know what's going to happen the next day."
WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Their name is more of a command than a band moniker. Sing It Loud-vocalists and guitarists Brown and Smith, bassist Nate Flyn, keyboardist Ben Peterson and drummer Chris Lee-craft sugary, synth-heavy pop anthems that demand the assistance a stadium-sized audience. Having already touring with the likes of Hit The Lights, Steel Train and the Spill Canvas, SIL hope to recruit more fans this year the old fashioned way. "Touring, touring, touring is all we want to do," says Smith. "We're working our asses off, because if you want something bad enough, you'll do whatever it takes to get it done." -Ryan Wasoba
