THE STORY SO FAR: Some bands rely on merch sales and plasma donations to fund their touring. Progressive-rock outfit LEONE take a different approach: They routinely win battle-of-the-band competitions with their unique sound, putting cash in their pockets and fans in their corner. "Our sound can be described as passionate, energetic, emotional, spiritual and noise," says frontman Will Thomas. "Basically, if Thom Yorke and Kurt Cobain had a baby and the Mars Volta raised it."
WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Simultaneously experimental and straightforward, LEONE have taken their genre-busting songs to the Cornerstone Music Festival and onto stages with Lovedrug and Cool Hand Luke. "We write with a purpose: To inspire, to challenge or to question," says Thomas. "When you listen to us, you feel something-hopefully something bigger than us."
