HQ: Seattle, WA NOW PLAYING: Assorted demos (myspace.com/searchrescue) THE STORY SO FAR: Things were looking bleak in Seattle indie rock and, strangely enough, precipitation levels had nothing to do with it. Beloved alterna-rockers Acceptance called it quits, and in 2006, Gatsbys American Dream began an implied hiatus. Side project rumors swirled and Search/Rescue surfaced-featuring Acceptance guitarist Kaylan Cloyd and Gatsbys' guitarist Ryan Van Wieringen (now on lead vocals) and bassist Bobby Darling. "We were all friends for years," says Darling. "When both bands imploded, we started writing the songs that would become the Search/Rescue demos." WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Forget that these guys were ever in bands before. The songs they've already put together verge on melodic post-pop masterpieces. "Our sound is more in the vein of Coldplay or Snow Patrol and less in the world of scene music," says Darling. "We're trying to write about what it's like to be human. We're trying to connect with people in a simple, spiritual way." YOU LIKE? YOU'LL LIKE: ON / BEAR COLONY / SNOW PATROL |
